S2 Packet Style

S2 packets shared the use of line drawings with the S1 style, though cover art was simpler and moved into the background. Typography was the principal design element.

A narrow, solid-color bar extended from the left edge of the cover, against which the slogan "21 full-color 3-D pictures" was set. The drawing of a Model "C" viewer was carried over from the S1 style, depicted against a background of three View-Master reels. Printing was two-color.

As in the S1 variant, an alphabetic packet designation (if any) and individual reel numbers were printed on the long S2 envelope flap.

A recent trend among collectors, initiated by Roger Nazeley, is to interpret the S2 design as simply one among several variations within the S1 style. Accordingly, many entries in the List appear with the combined designation "S1-S2." Many separate "S1" and "S2" entries persist, however, because they derive from earlier sources which treated the two styles as distinct variants. As more sources adopt the newer notation, these separate entries likely will evolve into combined listings.
