One day, sometime in early 1996, my friends Kate, Summer, and Mitch, along with some other people, were at a Double Daves' pizzeria when a blond "surfer dude" came up to Kate. He extended his hand and said "Hi, I'm Steve!". Five minutes later, he returned and proceeded to do the same thing again.Well, word spread, and soon our whole Social Club was going around using "Hi, I'm Steve!" as a greeting. I have no idea why. Several Steve sightings (kinda like Elvis sightings) were also made.
The Steve craze finally died down, though there are still Steve sightings occasionally, but not before spreading to a small town in New Mexico and producing a poem (the link may be down) and a play based on the story.
The play, which I wrote and acted in, was actually shown on the Zachary Scott Theatre's Arena Stage as part of Double Takes, a series of vignettes written and performed by actors from our homeschooling group and directed by Cindy Vining.
