Theater is one of my favorite hobbies (both watching and acting). I especially like the works of Shakespeare. Oscar Wilde, Bernard Shaw, and Moliere are some of my other favorites.
I've also had roles in quite a few plays:
- Jack The Ripper & Mr. Plastic in The Austin Youth Troupe Variety Show (1994)
- Performed at the Dougherty Arts Center, the South Austin Recreation Center, Westgate Mall, & AquaFest.
- Cook, Entomologist, Pinball 1, & Narrator in Guns (Nov 1995)
- A collection of short scenes created by the actors, with aggression as the theme. Performed at the Dougherty Arts Center.
- Steve, Actor 1, & Sports Announcer in Double Takes (Nov 1996)
- Another collection of short scenes created by actors, with "packaging" as the theme. Performed at the Arena Stage at the Zachary Scott Theatre. Steve, which I wrote, was part of this production.
- Claudio in Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing (May 1997)
- Performed at the Kleberg Theater at Zachary Scott.
- Leontes & Dorcas in Shakespeare's The Winter's Tale (May 1998)
- Performed at the Kleberg Theater at Zachary Scott. In this play, I made my first drag appearance onstage.
- Hamlet in Shakespeare's Hamlet (Dec 1998)
- Performed at the Zachary Scott Theater Arena Stage. We survived the Set From Hell.
- Malvolio in Scenes From Twelfth Night (Dec 1998)
- Performed at the Zachary Scott Theater Kleberg Stage.
- An actor (there weren't really any 'roles' in this play) in I Know I Saw Gypsies (May 1999)
- Performed at the Zachary Scott Theater Kleberg Stage. Part of this production was not rehearsed until the day of the performance, so that it would retain its shock value. We won't talk about that here, though.
- Lysander and Oberon in A Midsummer Night's Dream (Dec 1999)
- Performed at the Zachary Scott Theater Kleberg Stage. I played both parts because we had two different casts, a tradition that has so far continued through all the Zach Scott productions.
- Antipholus of Ephesus, the Page, and Balthasar in The Comedy of Errors(May 2000).
- Performed at the Zachary Scott Theater Kleberg Stage. During the course of this play, I was required to first dress as a woman and, later, to threaten other actors with a stuffed trout.
- Young Cato, Dardanius, and assorted servants in Julius Caesar(Oct 2000).
- Performed at the Zilker Hillside Theater. This was my first major theater production. I spoke such lines as "I am the son of Marcus Cato, ho!" whilst trying to keep a straight face. I also experienced the twin horrors of outdoor performance and portable mikes for the first time. All in all, it was very enjoyable, and the other actors were a pleasure to work with.
- Old Gobbo, Lorenzo, and Antonio in The Merchant of Venice(Dec 2000).
- Performed at the Zachary Scott Theater Kleberg Stage. In this production, I dropped the dish of doves, caught the casket, and spoke the priceless line "I am dumb."
All up to Midsummer were directed by Cindy Vining and Omma Productions. Comedy and Merchant were directed by Jon Watson, and Julius Caesar was directed by Ev Lunning, Jr.
I've also been one of the stage managers for Winnie-The-Pooh (Nov 1997), and ran the light board as a volunteer for the Austin Shakespeare Festival's Merchant of Venice (1996) and Othello/As You Like It (1999) seasons. I also learned all the lines for Sir Walter Blunt.
