Club News for Spring 2001
- Our chess club is the biggest it has ever been (more than 80 players)! Due to this, we have had to change some things to reduce overcrowding. See the Join page for more details.
- On January 31st, instead of normal Chess Club, we had an orientation meeting for new players. Doug Hardesty, Geeta Persad, and this webmaster assisted with the meeting (I gave a lecture on castling :-). We welcome our new players into the club!
- Our January 17th meeting was huge. We had 6 sections, with players ranging from beginners to the most experienced tournament players. Sections were won by:
- Green - Geeta Persad, Alex Schwendner
- White - Dan Johnson, Jonathan Morgan
- Yellow - David Faskas
- Orange - Adrian Robinson
- Blue - Sam Toups, Tony Hart
- Pink - Erin Murchison
- At the January 10th Tournament Players meeting, we had more than 30 players! We all took notation (yours truly hopes to organize a class on notation soon), and played our first game at G/30 to simulate tournament conditions. The sections, which were organized by age, as they would be in a tournament, were won by:
- Primary - Alex Balkum (3.0/3)
- Elementary - A.J. Audain, Joseph Jehlen, Jonathan Morgan (2.5/3)
- Middle School - Alex Schwendner (3.0/3)
- High School - Govind Persad (3.0/3)
- If you go to Chess Club, have taken notation for a game you played (ICC games are good too, if you have the notation logged), and would like it to be placed in this section, please tell me, by email or otherwise. I'll even type the game out if you give me the scoresheet :)
